Hackney Museum
Hackney Museum is opening their 'Body Talk' Exhibition.

The exhibit has a strong sensory theme and has taken many ideas from Disability Backup Members.

Hackney Museum formally invites members of Disability Backup to a pre visit of the Body Talk exhibition on Tuesday 1st June 2010, 11am at Hackney Museum, 1 Reading Lane.

Come and see the exhibit that Disability Backup has helped develop.

Hackney LINk
Hackney LINk steering group members are due to stand for re election.

If you are a member of Hackney LINk you can decide to stand for election onto the steering group. Papers are being sent automatically to all LINk members.

Due to the time commitments involved in being a steering group member, Catherine will be stepping down from the steering group.

Disability Backup will continue to work closely with Hackney LINk, and Catherine will remain the chair on the Adult Social Care Working group until further notice.

Hackney will be holding its annual Carers Conference during National Carers week on 15th June 2010. The theme this year is 'A Life of My Own'. Carers are being invited to attend a free event at Hackney Town Hall.

The annual Carers' Conference offers the opportunity for Hackney carers to have their say about services and support available from the Council and partners, meet other carers, find out about free training courses, employment support, Telecare, and how adult social care is changing, have their blood pressure checked, relax, and have lunch.

Those attending can also apply for a free Carers Card, which offers concessionary rates of up to 50 per cent at Council leisure centres, and discounts at local shops.

Carers are unpaid and look after family, a partner or friend in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability.
