Feedback from April's Forum Meeting April's Forum Meeting was held at Hackney Museum. We enjoyed given nibbles and drinks and were taken on a tour around the Museum. We found that the staff were very friendly and accommodating but the museum itself is not very accessible. The main barriers were for those with sensory impairments who found few sensory exhibits. Also signage and seating were an issue. As a result of our visit the museum would like to develop a sensory/disability themed exhibition with the forum's help! More information to come in July! Upcoming Events Are you Deaf or hard of hearing and living in Hackney & City of London? What we can do for you?

In particular we are interested in understanding the factors that influence frequency and nature of park use and the barriers that may prevent more regular park usage giving special considerations to those issues that may be more pertinent for the disabled community. Where? Disability Backup meeting room When? Monday 8th June 12pm Time to Get Equal Week Time to Get Equal Week is disability charity Scope's annual awareness-raising week. TTGE 2009 - which runs from June 8-14 - will bring together disabled and non-disabled people to celebrate disabled people's contribution to society and also to challenge the discrimination which many disabled people face on a daily basis. TTGE Week aims to bring people together to support Scope's vision of equality for disabled people - that is a future in which disabled people have the same opportunities and lifestyle choices as everyone else. During the week disabled people, their organisations and supporters will be running local campaigns, events and activities to raise awareness. There will also be a number of events and activities in Scope's shops and services across England and Wales to mark TTGE Week. The overall aims of all of TTGE Week's activities are to enable disabled people to make their voices heard about the issues that matter to them and to engage many more people - both disabled and non-disabled - to work together to achieve disabled people's equality. As part of Time to Get Equal Week Scope is encouraging as many people as possible to sign up to its equality pledge which encourages people to raise awareness about the importance of access for disabled people and to speak up if they see a disabled person being treated unfairly. For example this could mean if someone was in a restaurant that was not accessible for wheelchair users they could mention this to the manager.
Scope's equality pledge is available online at www.timetogetequal.org.uk
or alternatively hard copies are
available in Scope shops. To find your nearest Scope shop go to
