Newsletter - December 2008 - Issue 4

Since the first Forum meeting we have been gathering your questionnaires and comments to decide upon future meetings and the shape of the Forum in the future. See below for the findings.

Next Forum Meeting

Wednesday 17th December 11-1pm

At City Edge, 125 Mare Street, E8 3RH

At this meeting we will update the Forum on the work of the focus groups and discuss current issues and aims of the Forum.

We also have a speaker:

Ray Boyce, Transformation Officer at Hackney Adult Social Care will be talking about the transformations happening around Adult Social Care.

Focus Groups

Do you have some spare time to volunteer with Disability Backup? Would you like to work more closely on a certain topic?

Disability Backup will be holding focus groups between now and the next Forum meeting. These are a chance for you to get involved with topics that are important to you e.g. letter writing, campaigning, visiting premises and meeting with services around a specific topic.

The first Focus groups will be:

Dial-a-ride services/taxi cards and companion badges
- Wednesday 3rd December, 11-12.30pm

Accessible leisure for all ages (financially and physically)
- Thursday 11th December, 11-12.30pm

Both meetings will be at Disability Backup, The Print House, 18 Ashwin Street, Dalston, E8 3DL

All of the work done in the focus groups will be discussed at the main Forum for all to be involved and members may join as many Focus groups and change groups as desired.

These are an opportunity for the Forum to DO more and to ensure that we generate some real CHANGE in the borough!

We will be starting more in the New Year, if you are unable to make these times but want to be part of the Focus group please contact Catherine.

Polite reminder for Professionals: Please note that the Forum Meetings and Focus groups are for disabled people to air their views. Those representing organisations are asked not to attend the Forum unless disabled themselves or having been invited first. Please contact Catherine to give your views on any topic raised. All outcomes of the Forums will be made available on the website and newsletter! Many thanks!
